Large Scottish Pottery mug, printed in brown to either side with the ‘Seville’ pattern, depicting a matador & bull, with a figure in front seizing the bull by the horns, an urn and city in the background, an arcaded border within & {!} pattern to the handle.  

Marked ‘SEVILLE / R.C.&Co ‘, for Robert Cochran & Co, Verreville, Scotland

Circa 1855

10cm high, 9.5cm at the rim.

Condition: signs of age, crazing to base, crack to side,

This pattern is not recorded on the Transferware Collectors Club database (yet!) – but fits in with the other patterns of Robert Cochran & Company of Verreville & Britannia Potteries, near Glasgow – with names such as ‘Canton’, ‘Ceylon’, ‘Delhi’ & ‘Florence’. The mark is also a slight variation of those recorded, and the handle pattern is also apparently new.
