Mioplosus is a scarce specimen in this fossil assemblage, and large examples like this are rare, They were predatory fish, with examples being found that died with large knightia ‘herring’ jammed in their mouths – presumed to be the cause of death. They had many fine teeth at an angle which meant prey they were eating could not escape – unfortunately, it probably also meant they could not remove an anticipated meal when it proved their ambitions for a meal were greater than their mouth size!
