Rare Liverpool delft tile, printed in black by Sadler with a humorous peasant scene, with a seated figure examining a child’s pants over her knee, which has made another figure hold their nose, the other seated man turning away with a grimace, within a rococo scroll frame. Circa 1760.

References | This tile belongs to the early period 1758-61. The border is distinctive, and can be seen on N450 & N451 in the V&A delft collection. The subject shows great humor, and is probably taken from a Dutch engraving, related to a series from the Screiber Collection now housed in the V&A. See N448 & 449 for two similar peasant subjects. |
