References | The pig was a symbol of wealth in the ancient Majapahit empire, and many of these models have a slot in the back to take coins. This is probably the origins of the European 'piggy-bank', as this part of Indonesia was colonised from the 16th century onwards, and ideas taken back to Europe. |
