ref. D. Michael Murray ‘European Majolica’ p112 for a discussion on this interesting Czech firm. There were two brothers in management, hence the name, and they founded the pot works in 1882. The business changed when it merged with another in 1906. Their earlier mark is ‘BU’, while later it changed, allowing us to date this to the first production period c. 1882-90 . Pl. 324-327 show a series of very similar sweet figures of children, surely by the same sculptor. The description suggests they were intended as match holders – they all have small baskets suitable for holding the old style wax matches.
