Raphael Smith did a series of portraits of members of the Marsh family of Cullompton in the early 19th century; this portrait of a stylish young lady and her dog, with fountain in the background, ended up in the ‘South Kensington’ Museum, which changed to the Victoria & Albert Museum in the early 20th century. It is not on view – and the museum website only shows a very poor black & white photo from the 1920’s.
Such a shame, she’s a very stylish lady!
