This is an unusual class of Nyonya (otherwise known as Peranakan – Straits Chinese) porcelain, with the addition of gold over blue & white. In ‘Straits Chinese Porcelain- a collectors guide’ by Ho Wing Meng, P.122, several pieces illustrated are from Penang, said to have belonged originally to a large set specially commissioned by a wealthy Straits Chinese family for its own use.
