Straits Chinese porcelain teapot, decorated with Phoenix in pink ground panels, reserved on turquoise with peony rose plants to either side, bands of ‘auspicious objects’ to neck and lid.

Also known as Nyonya , Nonya, Peranakan, these particularly decorative wares were in demand in South-East Asian Chinese communities from the mid 19th century onwards. They are actually from the Chinese ceramic production center of Jingdezhen, made for the SE Asian market.
