Magnificent pair of Australian-made classical pedestals, in cowrie pine, the riffled column with spreading octagonal base and top, framed with egg & dart moulding, a curious slide to one facet of the top.

Purchased locally, these interesting items were probably from the entrance of a grand house, a public building, or a department store. The small slide-out shelf is a unique feature. They are extremely heavily built, suggesting they may have been for a large marble or bronze statue.
