The ‘M’ and ‘R’ of this mark refer to the two partners, Alpinien Margaine and Martial Redon, who took over an existing porcelain works in Limoges in 1853. The shape has its origins in Asian bronze forms, but the decoration shows the ‘belle epoque’ at it’s finest, and has a certain flamboyant twist that is a precursor to the Art Nouveau style that as to bud in France in the 1880’s before exploding across the globe in the following decades.
