Pair of rare altar candlesticks, finely decorated in polychrome with scrolling foliage on a yellow ground, the bases and tops a pale blue.
Four character Yongzheng mark,
19thC.

Excellent condition

The mark is a four-character version for Yongzheng, but the pieces are not stylistically from that early 18thC date; the mark is therefore ‘looking back’ and incorrect.
Decoration is very similar to the drum stools illustrated ‘~Peranakan Chinese porcelain’ p232, dated to the Tongzhi period, 1861-75. This is an appropriate date for these candlesticks.
