Rare pair of large Staffordshire figures of a lady and gent both wearing feathered hats, blue jackets and colourfully enamelled clothes, he with his dog, she with her bird, on scrolled bases.
Circa 1855
He is 30.5cm high, she 29cm
ref. Harding Vol1 Figs 1378/79 for a pair, in the ‘unidentified Characters’ section, with the following note:
“These figures are of exceptional quality, are very rare, and have so far escaped identification, their appearance suggests operatic rather than theatrical.”
Harding gives them a rarity rating of ‘C’ – £1,000-2,000
