The 1977 Mentmore Sale is an important one, remembered as the “Sale of the Century’. It was the dispersal of the amazing Rothschild collection of art housed in their grand house ‘Mentmore’, and Sotheby’s held a 9-day sale, setting a new record for an auction. These days it is regarded as a superb provenance.
