Handsome pair of silver handled forks, the pistol grips with shell moulding to the ends, hallmarked ‘TA’, probably for T. Allan of Bailey Street, Sheffield, registered 1777.

ref. Peter Brown ‘British Cutlery’ p104 for similar cast examples, 1740 – 50. THis example is thin silver from later in the century , and is shown in Bradbury’s ‘Old Sheffield Plate’ p456, dated 1796; it as obviously a popular design for most of the 18th century!
