Fine quality ‘Verge fusee’ pocketwatch, by John May, London, set within a sterling silver repousse outer case, depicting Father Time crowning a seated figure, a child with a dog at their feet, the works gilt with pierced and engraved balance bridge, Egyptian pillars, and finely detailed brackets etc., inscribed ‘MAY / LONDON / 985’. The inner case with hallmarks for Sterling, London, 1750, and makers mark for Francis Crump, also 985 for watch number.
Condition | works look fine but not ticking, no corrosion or obvious damage. Chain runs, it is possible to use a key to wind, but works fail to run. |
