Fine quality ‘Verge fusee’ pocketwatch, by John May, London, set within a sterling silver repousse outer case, depicting Father Time crowning a seated figure, a child with a dog at their feet, the works gilt with pierced and engraved balance bridge, Egyptian pillars, and finely detailed brackets etc., inscribed ‘MAY / LONDON / 985’. The inner case with hallmarks for Sterling, London, 1750, and makers mark for Francis Crump, also 985 for watch number.

Condition

works look fine but not ticking, no corrosion or obvious damage. Chain runs, it is possible to use a key to wind, but works fail to run.
