References | These wares were made to commemorate the peace between France & England, for a brief period, after the signing of the Treaty of Amiens in 1802. The name Wedgwood & Co was used because of the partnership the Freeybridge potters had with Ralph Wedgwood; however, he left in 1801, so these wares should probably be more correctly be called 'Ferrybridge Pottery'. However, there is evidence that the potters at Ferrybridge continued to use the mark 'Ferrybridge & Co' after Ralph had left, as shown when Ralph was in trouble with Josiah Wedgwood in 1806 because of this 'problem'. |
