ref. Lewis- A collectors history of English pottery- p246 for discussion of this unique shape. Sir Henry Cole designed this teaset (using the name Felix Summerly) which won the 1846 Society of the Arts prize. He of course went on to help organize the 1851 Great Exhibition, and later became the director of the new South Kensington Museum (the V&A). This handle is apparently unrecorded by Berthoud, but similar examples were noted in the Minton Museum Collection recently dispersed.
