Rare Spode porcelain basket, formed as a series of linked Cockle Shells, each brightly coloured to the exterior & set in a bed of ‘seaweed’, a handle mid-way with the same green, on four gilt ball feet, the interior painted with a series of flower sprigs within gilt foliage and wide lavender band.
Red SPODE mark,
pattern no. 2234.

ref. Whiter ‘SPODE’ p251 for a similar example in the Spode museum, but without the small ball feet and not decorated inside.
