Robert Tantau was a local artist who specialised in watercolour landscapes, mostly of the local Geelong region. Born in 1931 into an artistic family, he was an arts teacher at the Geelong West Technical School for 20 years. As a member of the Geelong Art Society, he was regularly winning awards for his works, and exhibiting at the Rotary Art Shows was a way to achieve some publicity and sales. This work was purchased at one such show by a local family.
He held his last ‘Retrospective’ exhibition at the Shearer’s Arms Gallery, Geelong West, in September 2019, aged 90.
