Roman Legionnaires helmet handle, with sinuous snake-like shape and ball ends.

5cm wide, 7cm high, total 13cm
Condition: signs of burial, the surface stable.
Provenance: purchased London 1990’s, from a metal detectorist, but find site unknown – probably Britain.
This handle was located on the back of a legionary helmet, as shown in the 2nd-3rd century example in the last photo. It allowed the helmet to be easily carried, or hung up.
