Samson of a youthful couple with flowers, Bow style, c.1900
Bow style figure of a youthful couple, seated on a scroll supported rocky plinth with flowers strewn all around, he with a fur hat & grapevines possibly representing Autumn, she with a straw hat and more grapes probably Summer, the whole finely detailed & brightly coloured. Marked with a mock ‘Anchor & Dagger’ Bow mark in gold, also ‘MADE IN FRANCE’ Circa 1900
some minor losses to ribbons, no restoration
A finely detailed creation probably by Samson, made to imitate Derby or Bow of the 1760's. The giveaway is in the paste it is made from - Derby would be soft paste, this is hard paste. The colours, stances, and small details such as lips also give it away as a 19th century effort, rather than original.
