Samson of Paris figure of youth & dog, Meissen style, 19th century
Sold
Meissen style figure of youth & dog, modelled seated on a leafy stump, holding a flower posy. Onglaze blue ‘Crossed Swords’ mark with slash at center for Samson of Paris, 19th century
Condition | some minor losses to ribbons, no restoration |
---|---|
Size | 17cm high |
References | A finely detailed creation by Samson, made to imitate Germany's Meissen of the 1760's, but French and 100 years later. It is great to get a piece with the Samson mark, as a large number bear no marks. The fact that it is onglaze is a giveaway that it is not Meissen, as Meissen marks should be underglaze. |
