References | A very impressive piece, sold by Christies Australia as 'late 18th or early 19th century Chinese'. Once the ormolu mounts are taken off there is no doubt that it is not Chinese but a superb example of the highest quality Sampson production of the later 19th century. He is recorded as making ormolu mounts in his Paris workshop, and this is most probably his work as well. |
