English electroplate covered jug , of simple tapering straight sided form, the handle with wicker weaving, the flat lid with self-closing central hinge, and large round knob.
Hallmarked ‘2’ / ‘HW LTD/ EPNS/ 888’, by Henry Wilkinson and Co, also small ‘2’ under lid

The firm of Henry Wilkinson & Co. ceased to trade in 1892, after being purchased by Walker & Hall. As the maker’s hallmark on the piece was registered in London in 1892, this is the very precise date for this piece.
The design is heavily influenced by Dr Christopher Dresser’s simplistic form borrowed from Asian designs, and foreshadows the styles of the 20th century.
