Stylish Swedish Arts & Crafts pewter spoon, by Frans Santesson, with heart-shaped bowl inscribed ‘Stockholm’, the junction formed by two elegant interlocking tendrils, the terminal folded back over & pointed, marked to the handle ‘F.SANTESSON’.
Circa 1905
Frans Santesson of Stockholm, Sweden, was born into a pewtersmith’s family, and learned the trade both by working with his father in the family firm, and by working for firms in Europe and in the USA. In 1862 he took over his father’s workshop and was accepted into the Stockholm’s Pewter Guild. He operated as a highly respected pewtersmith in the City of Stockholm until his death in 1916.
