Handsome Torquay Watcombe Pottery jug, of sparrow-beak form with pierced strained and long internal flange to the lid, the body with white slip ground, well painted to one side with fishing boats reflecting in the sea, the other with a lengthy incised verse from Charles Kingsley (‘The Invitation- To Tom Hughes’ 1856) :
‘Do the work that’s nearest
Tho its dull at whiles
Helping when you meet them
Lame dogs over stiles’ .
