Unusual blue body jug, Pearson, fruiting vine moulding, c. 1865
$145.00 AUD
Unusual blue body jug, by EDW. Pearson, with fruiting vine moulding,
Impressive applied mark to base
Circa 1865
16.5cm high
nibbles to rim, lid absent
The unusual applied pad mark on this piece is identical to the printed mark recorded for Edward Pearson, active as a potter / porcelain maker. Interestingly, no marked example is known to Godden, leaving a very basic entry in his books. The date range is 1850-73,
In the Schffer Book ‘Encyclopedia of Marks’ there is an identical mark transcribed form a printed example (p301) – our example is an applied clay version. Here they follow him to the United States in 1873, where he opens the Wheeling Potteries in Ohio.
