Unusual Chinese collapsable side table, 2 quality engraved brass chargers & hardwood folding stand, c. 1910
$560.00 AUD
Chinese collapsable side table, with 2 brass tray surfaces, each well decorated with incised scenes of dragons, foo dogs, and bird & flowers,
the stand with 6 curvaceous legs ending in small ball feet.
The stand incised ‘CHINA’, c. 1910
57cm wide, 62cm high
Condition: Good, the brass has a lacquered finish (to keep it bright) which has worn in places, allowing dark toning underneath; could be buffed back to a bright finish again if needed. Very usable, wood is sound.
The ‘CHINA’ mark indicates it dates after the international ‘country of origin’ requirements introduced by Britain in the 1890’s, and enforced for the first quarter of the 20th century before they become less frequent. This helps date the piece, with the Edwardian period being the most likely date, where it would have been used in an interior along with Chinese ceramics and a few potted palm trees to give an exotic feel to a living room.
