Rare Vienna figure, ‘Couple in Antique Spanish Dress’ c. 1765
Vienna group of a gallant and lady, ‘Couple in Antique Spanish Dress’, she dressed in a blue & yellow bodice and wide flowery skirt with bright yellow petticoat, blue shoes on her feet, he in a pink jacket and pants, his green hat under his arm, standing on a flower strewn grassy mound with tree trunk supporting the skirt, the white band with a gilt C-scroll border.
Underglaze blue shield mark,
reverse with impressed ‘O’
Superb condition, minor original firing flaws visible underneath, with no restorations or losses.
Provenance: The Antique Porcelain Company, NY. Ref. Christies London Feb 25 2005 for a similar group with the same impressed ‘O’. There are interesting differences, namely a sheep at her feet and bows on man & lady, which are not found on our example, and do not appear to have ever been part of the production.
