These ‘Old English’ set of months followed designs by Helen J.A.Miles.
Helen Jane Arundel Miles was the daughter of an author, Sibella Elizabeth Miles, and through her drawing skills came to illustrate a number of books in the mid-Victorian era, inspired by the Pre-Raphaelite and Arts & Crafts movements – and naturally Wedgwood used her very fashionable designs in their products. These tiles began to be produced in the late 1870’s, with this example coming a decade later, showing their continuing popularity into the 20th century.
