Wileman pottery plate, printed in blue with the “Costumbres Espanoles” pattern, depicting a spectacular Spanish bullfight in a ring with spectators watching, the rim with panels of Spanish pursuits, including ‘dancers’ and ‘wild-horse catching’, within ornate rococo scroll frames.
Impressed ‘WILEMAN’, overlayed with a blue printed oval filled with Jawi, Malay written in Arabic script, a mark used 1871-1880 for the merchant firm of C. Houghton & Co. with offices in London, Batavia and Surabaya.
