This group commemorates a play at the Adelphi Theater, London, titled ‘New and Gorgeous Serio-Comic Indian Burletta Spectacle’ called ‘The Elephant of Siam or The Fire Fiend’ , and ran 1829-30. During the course of the action, the elephant wrenches the bars from the Siamese Prince Almansor’s window and the prince slides down the elephant’s trunk to safety!
Her name was Mademoiselle d’Jeck, and she has an interesting story to tell – yes, she’s still around to tell it!
