Ault vase with pink glaze, Dr Dresser inspired, c.1889-90
Sold
Ault pottery pink glazed vase, the beaker form with slightly flared lip, showing the influence of Dr Christopher Dresser.
Impressed ‘AULT’
circa 1889-90
16cm high
The ‘Dresser Influence’ is evident in this piece, and most probably indicates the purchase of the Linthorp moulds designed by Dresser in the 1870’s. Ault purchased these when Linthorp closed in 1889 and continued to make the same forms.
This particular piece bears the impressed ‘AULT’ mark without ‘ENGLAND’, and this allows us to date it to the beginning of Ault’s production, after their purchase of the moulds from Linthorpe in 1889 but before they added ‘ENGLAND’ to the mark in 1891.
