The original Roman mural this is depicting is located in the Pompeii house known as ‘The House of the Vettii’, painted on the walls of the triclinium. This house, excavated in 1894-95, derives its name from two bronze seals found near a strongbox in the atrium. The seals bore the names of two freedmen brothers, Aulus Vettius Restitutus and Aulus Vettius Conviva.

Similar works are signed VINCENZO BISOGO (Italian, born 1866). This ‘A’ Bisogo could be a sibling, or a child of Vincenzo. Their work appears to be finer & more sensitive to the original than the documented Vincenzo works…
