Bloch covered vase, in the Meissen style, encrusted flowers circa 1880
Sold
French porcelain baluster shaped covered vase, in the Meissen style, decorated with colourful encrusted flowers surrounding painted flower groups.
Marked with mock-crossed swords incorporating ‘E’ and ‘C’, for Claus, Bourdois & Bloch, Paris
Circa 1880
15cm high
minor losses to trails
An interesting note to the base states ‘at Dartmouth / Feb 28. 1887’ , giving it an interesting provenance. These items with an ambiguous ‘Meissen’ mark were often intentionally mistaken for the expensive original…. Bloch was a German who moved to Paris for the sole purpose of making Meissen-styled goods, often with Meissen style marks….
