Cantonese ‘Straits Chinese’ -Rose Medallion- vase, c.1865
Sold
Cantonese ‘Straits Chinese’ vase, the elegant shape with tall flared neck, painted in the ‘Rose Medallion’ manner with a colourful large scene of figures in an interior, a panel with a figure in a window above, the reverse with panel of birds on flowering branches, the whole on a gilt & foliate ground.
Circa 1865
17.5cm high
Small chip to reverse rim, otherwise excellent
A nice early example of Cantonese ware, with well detailed scenes. As time goes by they become ‘sloppier’, and by 1900 they are nowhere near the quality seen here.
