Rare Chinese export ewer, copied from a Meissen original of circa 1740, the baluster shaped body on short base, with c-scroll handle and birds-head moulded spout, a face moulded at the join with the body, painted in underglaze blue with scattered peonies, with details of the moulding also picked out in blue. Circa 1750
Condition | lid overpainted, probably to disguise a break down the middle; the base in good condition, bar a firing flaw at lower handle join that has resulted in a hairline to the handle. |
