Rare Chinese export ewer, copied from a Meissen original of circa 1740, the baluster shaped body on short base, with c-scroll handle and birds-head moulded spout, a face moulded at the join with the body, painted in underglaze blue with scattered peonies, with details of the moulding also picked out in blue. Circa 1750

Condition

lid overpainted, probably to disguise a break down the middle; the base in good condition, bar a firing flaw at lower handle join that has resulted in a hairline to the handle.
