References

The source of this figure can probably be traced back to a long-lost statue of Louis XV by Martin Desjardins (1640-94) - seen as a small scale wooden model in the Rosenberg Collection, Geelong. It appears at Derby in the dry-edge period, circa 1751. The form seen here, with the square plinth, appears circa 1780.
