This item shares a lot of characteristics with Vienna’s early factory of Du Pacquier - for a good reason. The Marchese Ginori had travelled to Vienna in 1737 and visited the workshop set up by the businessman Du Paquier, and had actually enticed away some workmen to help him set up his own factory. This resulted in a successful product by 1740. Similar decoration is also found on early Vienna, and indeed, Ginori imported the artist J.K.W. Anreiter to improve the artistic output of the Doccia works. His style was the fine stippled effect seen on this box, similar in appearance to engravings which inspired scenes such as this.
