Doulton ‘Slater Ware’ Stoneware vase, with tall foot & neck with spreading rim glazed in a mottled green/blue, the egg-shape body with an incised ‘cell’ pattern glazed clear to show the buff coloured clay.
Impressed with the usual mark, also ‘3901’, ‘DOULTON SLATER’, and incised modeler’s initials ‘RG’

Good condition, some glaze sanding around lip, displays well

The incised pattern on this piece is a fascinating link to the advances in the science of botany; cellular structure was being examined , and the octagonal forms seen here appear interspaced with Prokaryotic (bacteria) cells!
