Early Staffordshire figue of ‘Virgin Mary’ with child, Dudson c.1810
Sold
Early Staffordshire figue of ‘Virgin Mary’ , modelled standing with child in her arms, on a low grassy mound set on a square plinth bearing the inscription ‘Virgin Mary’.
Dudson,
Circa 1810
24.3cm
Some losses to enamels , chips to applied flowers & leaves
This is a Ralph Wood model, but the construction technique and the enamels are different: they conform to Dudson examples. The probable reason is the sale of the Wood firm’s moulds after Ralph’s death in 1795 meant they ended up being used at Dudson from around 1805.
