Early Staffordshire figure of the ‘Widow of Sarepta’, modelled seated on a rocky mound, her left hand on a barrel, her right clasping a bundle of sticks, her son at her side assisting with more sticks, the tall ewer to one side, the whole colourfully enamelled, on a square plinth base titled ‘Widow of Sarepta’.

Ralph Wood made an early version of this figure, which was copied by a multitude of later potters. This example conforms to the verified Ralph Wood details of moulding, colour palette, and occasional marked piece with his model number ‘170’.
