Early Staffordshire ‘Contest’ group, with a boy offering a hat of fruit to a girl to one side while fending off a girl to the other side, a bocage to the rear & on a grassy mound base set on a square plinth with brown line detail.

Condition: restored bocage & other flaws, some overpainting, displays well.
Ref. Schkolne ‘Staffordshire Figures’ vol 4 p36-44 for a range of similar figures; this example is closest to 146.34, attributed to Dudson.
The points of difference with others to note include: rocky plinth same moulding – with 3-fingered protrusion below boy – angle of his open shirt & girls hand – position of feet of left-hand girl.
