English enamel oval box, hand painted to the lid with a country scene depicting a ‘Distracted Shepherd’, his sheep running off with dog in pursuit as he is distracted by a pretty girl, the sides & base with colourful flower groups.
Attributed to Birmingham, c. 1760
8.5x5cm, 3.5cm high
Minor signs of age, small area of repair to one side of base, the lid good.
The entire piece is freely hand-painted, with no transfer print outline as was common at the time.
