There are a large number of 'Veuve Perrin' pieces on the market with the VP mark, such as this one has. However, this example - and a good portion of others on offer - are not original 18th century productions, but 19th century re-creations, or fakes. The mark on this piece is convincing, and the green dashes along the footrim also appear in authentic examples - BUT in original Veuve Perrin pieces they have the function of disguising the three stilt-mark scars that were a part of the manufacturing process at that time. In the case of this jug, they are merely painted on to the base 'because they should be there', with no purpose - a sure indication of fraud, albeit a magnificent one!
