German glass flask enamelled with verse & figure, c. 1730
German soda glass flask of squared form, well enamelled with a verse & figure amongst flowers, the man dressed in stylish red coat with tricorn hat and holding a drinking beaker up in a toast, the neck retaining the original pewter stopper. Mid 18th century
Sometimes called 'Stiegel' glass due to an early glassmaker in America who made soda glass flasks enamelled like this. However, he of course learnt his trade in Europe, and most examples are the European original, not the American pioneer copies.
