After S.T.Gill, engraved by J. Tingle,
Published by Sands & Kenny, ‘Victoria Illustrated’
1857
Carefully coloured with watercolours at a later date.
Framed in a modern period style frame, 41x36cm
This was an illustration in ‘Victoria Illustrated’, published Published by Sands & Kenny, Melbourne, 1857 . The original was a S.T. Gill sketch of the 1850’s.
This view is from the present location of the Geelong College prep. school, looking along the route of the road known as ‘The Deviation’ towards Fyansford. Artistic licence has been used to provide balance – the hill at the left is far too close to the river, missing the flat ground that contains the Queens Park Golf Course today.
