Maxwell Wilks born Melbourne, originally working in Graphic art and then studied drawing at the National Gallery Art School. He started painting full-time in 1982. In that same year he won both the Victorian Artist Society’s ‘Artist of the Year’, and the A. M. E. Bale Award.
