References | This form is not illustrated in the literature. Most boxes are at leas twice the size, making this a most unusual example. Once attributed to Saint Cloud, it is now thought to be Mennecy; this attribution is due to the slightly creamy paste - Saint Cloud is whiter - and the moulded decoration to the lid. This lid is possibly adapted from a larger example, as there is evidence of grinding to the edges. |
